The Analytics’08 conference was held as a parallel event to the HTC’08 conference – Analytics08 was a parallel event to the HTC08 conference – an annual event organized by Altair India as part of global HTC series.
Analytics’08 was targeted at key decision makers and was attended by invitees across India. Around 75 people attended this full day event which had a diverse group of eminent speakers. The theme for the Analytics’08 event was “Elevating Data to Knowledge”.
Competition and the ongoing pressure to run a profitable enterprise is the biggest challenge that organisations face today. This phenomenon is constant across the industry segments and pronounced in organisations of all size. Enterprises, in the past, have invested huge sums of money into IT applications only to ensure that they are in control of their businesses and ready to react to the dynamically changing business environment. In the process, they are sitting on large amounts of data, yet unable to derive the key insights they desire to drive their businesses in the most optimum fashion. Data has never been looked upon as a key asset, and never utilized appropriately for scientific decision making. With an intention to allow organisations leverage these large data assets to get insights (knowledge), the conference focused on the subject of leveraging these data sets to drive competitive advantage.
Topics ranged to include the pervasiveness of analytics within enterprises, decision support systems and specific applications of analytics to Manufacturing Industry as well as Wealth management. A special topic was also lined up focusing on use of analytics in the engineering space.
Mr. Shrikant Kanappan started the proceedings with a key note on “Elevating Data to Knowledge”, in which he emphasized the pervasiveness of analytics across departments within the enterprise and the benefits that can be reaped with its use. Mr. Kamal Bali, CEO and Ex. Dir. of Escorts Construction Equipment Limited, talked about the role that analytics played in the sales and marketing operations of his business. His topic of discussion was “Executive Insights to Sustainable Business Excellence”. Being a user of analytics, HiQube being their choice of decision support framework at ECEL, he shared his thoughts and experiences related to the framework.
Mr. Ashok Asawale, Sr. GM – IT of Mahindra and Mahindra and Mr. Ajay Vishwanath, CEO – Stratycon Business Solutions spoke about the “Power Of Knowledge”, and how analytics can help achieve that power of knowledge. Mr. Milind Date, CFO – Endurance Technologies brought about a different perspective to the subject of analytics while speaking on the subject of “Top Management and New Age Decision Support Systems”. He covered the subject from a finance view point as part of his larger presentation.
Specifc topics related to manufacturing covered during the conference were “Business Intelligence: Manufacturing Plant to Board Room” which was covered by Mr. Prasad Sant, VP & BU Head – EcoAxis and “Engineering Intelligence for Product Design & Engineering” presented by Mr. M. Kannan, GM – R&D – TVS Motor Company. In continuation with the Manufacturing track, Mr. Alhad Joshi, VP – Enterprise Solutions – Altair spoke on “Manufacturing Operations and efficiency” again highlighting the role of analytics therein.
Mr. Gopinath Narayanan, CEO – Belladona Information Systems brought about the role of analytics in wealth management and CRM, emphasizing on its importance through his subject matter on “Know Your Customer”.
The conference was a success with many of the invitees posing multiple questions to the speakers and making it interactive. Many attendees also took the opportunity to speak to the eminent speakers during the breaks and had one on one session to understand how they can leverage the power of analytics for their respective organisations. The event provided a very good networking platform to the senior industry practitioners. Some of the attendees made a request for an extra time to understand the analytics product HiQube, which was showcased outside the conference room, spending quality time in evaluating the same. HiQube - an analytical decision support framework for Sales and Marketing, Engineering Design and Plant Maintenance was showcased during the event.
