Topological, Shape and Multidiciplinary Combined Optimization
for Fixed Crossbeam in Hydraulic Press through
the use of OptiStruct and HyperStudy
Roberto D'Aria, Altair Engineering
Weight saving is becoming more and more a standard requirement
in mechanical machinery domain,
both in terms of raw material and necessary
power in moving the machine tool masses.
Currently design of mechanical machineries
is mainly influenced by robustness engineering;
the
necessity of an almost infinite fatigue life
drives the traditional engineering and development
to an
excessive use of cast iron and steel, combined
with powerful electric motors.
Furthermore dedicated CAE methodology activities are recently
more and more applied in order to
weight reduction combined with performances
optimization; typical fields of application
of CAE
methodologies are, in this case, the evaluation
of structures normal modes, multibody dynamics,
topologycal and multidisciplinary optimization.
The purpose of the paper is to show this methodological evolution
done on the simulation aspect.
In this presentation,a punch press topologycal
optimization will be introduced, showing how
the conservation,
so as an increase, of mechanical and precision
performances of a machine tool
can
be done with a substantial reduction of mass.
