Structural Development and Optimization of Wind Power
Plants Rotor Blades
Dr. Christoph Katzenschwanz, ACENTISS GmbH
Various engineering disciplines designing wind turbines can
be supported by engineering
expertise derived from aerospace design activities.
This presentation compares the system requirements
in the aerospace and wind-energy sectors, addressing requirements
from the airlines, aircraft suppliers and significant
loadcases
for aircraft. Those specifications are discussed
in comparison with requirements on wind-energy installations
and design-determining
factors. Design development processes, materials
and manufacturing processes are also presented focusing on
the transferability
from aerospace application to wind energy converters.
Under this context, the numerical results derived from the
structural
development of rotor blades in the scope of
optimization procedures are presented. Aiming for high energy
wind turbine plants
a specifically developed rotor blade with segmented
layout is discussed.
