Volkswagen's Needs for Future FE Modell Creation Strategies for NVH and Crash Applications

Dr. Volker Schulze; Dr. Jürgen Bruns, Volkswagen Group

The increasing model range and the reduction of the development cycle times are resulting in higher demands on the simulation techniques. Based on the knowledge of the developments in the model generation process during the last decade, an idea of future demands in this field was developed. Generally speaking these are the topics of model quality improvement, handling of meta-information and model structuring: First, the solver should deliver a readable summary of the input data. Second, non-geometric information has to be conveyed from the CAD-documents to the final post-processing operations. Third, a modular approach has to be established in the model generation process, ensuring both fast model changes and reliable simulation results. These requirements are prioritized with respect to the necessary software development steps.
