of Exhaust Systems

Designing exhaust systems regarding durability, the excitation
by the gas and mass forces from the engine is of special interest.
An engine-speed dependant dynamic excitation is applied to
the exhaust system. It calls for a high cycle fatigue resistant
design of the exhaust system at the resonance frequencies.
Since the effect of a change of geometry on the dynamic behavior
of the system is hard to predict, a lot of variants have to
be analyzed in a frequency response calculation.
Apart from the automation of the calculation process, an
automatic report preparation with clear and meaningful result
presentation is of particular importance. On the one hand
the reporting tool saves time and avoids errors. On the other
hand a fast cause analysis of the weak points of the exhaust
system should be possible.
Altair Engineering programmed a tool for an automated report
generation for Emcon Technologies. It is adaptable to varying
customer requirements. The Computation engineer can intervene
in the process and apply modifications to the report.
